Editorial Standards
Last updated: April 25, 2026
Accounting Software Pilot publishes independent reviews, comparisons, and buyer guides for accounting, ERP, payroll, and business software. Our editorial standards exist to ensure that every piece of content we publish is accurate, useful, and trustworthy. This page documents how we research, evaluate, and maintain our content.
Research Methodology
Every product review and comparison on this site follows a consistent research process:
- We study the vendor’s official product documentation, including feature pages, help centers, API documentation, and release notes
- Where available, we access trial environments, sandbox accounts, or live product demos to verify functionality firsthand
- We research publicly available pricing, including any differences between published rates and actual contract terms reported by users
- We review credible third-party sources including user reviews on platforms such as G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius, as well as industry analyst reports
- We consult practitioners with direct experience using the software in real business environments
When direct product access is limited (for example, enterprise products that require a sales conversation), we clearly label which findings are based on vendor-provided materials versus independently verified information.
Evaluation Framework
Product reviews are evaluated against a weighted scoring framework. The specific criteria and their relative weight may vary by product category, but our standard evaluation dimensions include:
- Core Functionality — Does the product deliver on its primary use case for the target audience?
- Pricing Transparency — Is pricing published clearly? Are there hidden costs, implementation fees, or contract lock-ins?
- Ease of Implementation — How long does onboarding take? What level of technical expertise is required?
- Reporting and Analytics — Quality and flexibility of built-in financial reports, dashboards, and data export options
- Integrations — Compatibility with banks, payment processors, payroll systems, CRMs, and other tools in the business stack
- Security and Compliance — SOC compliance, data encryption, role-based access, audit trails
- Customer Support — Availability, response quality, and support channels (phone, chat, email, community)
- Scalability — Can the product grow with the business without requiring a full platform migration?
Editorial Independence
Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial relationships.Accounting Software Pilot participates in affiliate programs with software vendors (see our Affiliate Disclosure), but these relationships do not affect our editorial process in any way:
- Affiliate commission rates are not visible to the editorial team during the review process
- Vendors cannot pay for higher review scores, preferred placement, or guaranteed inclusion
- We publish critical findings about partner products when our research warrants it
- Products without affiliate programs are evaluated using the same criteria and methodology
Content Updates and Corrections
Software products change frequently. We make reasonable efforts to keep our content accurate and up to date:
- Published articles display the original publication date and a last-updated date when applicable
- When we identify outdated information (pricing changes, feature additions or removals, vendor acquisitions), we update the relevant content and note the change
- Factual errors reported by readers or vendors are investigated and corrected within 24 hours of verification, with a correction note appended to the article
To report an error or suggest an update, email corrections@accountingsoftwarepilot.com with the article URL and the specific detail that needs attention.
Sources and Attribution
When we cite statistics, research findings, or user review data from third-party sources, we identify the source within the content. We do not present third-party data as our own. Vendor-provided claims are attributed to the vendor and are noted as such when they have not been independently verified.
